Fibreglass Roofs

GRP Fibreglass Flat Roofing

A GRP roof is built on site from resin and glass fibre matting laid over a timber deck. Once cured it forms a single, rigid shell with no laps, and edges and upstands are bonded into the same layer. That joint-free finish makes fibreglass well suited to roofs with awkward shapes and plenty of detail.

Fibreglass handles light foot traffic better than most flat roof coverings, which is why it is popular for balconies, roof terraces and dormers as well as extensions and garages. A pigmented topcoat gives a tidy, even appearance in a choice of colours.

GRP needs dry conditions to cure properly, so wet weather can move a start date, and we keep you informed if it does. We offer a FREE drone roof inspection and a FREE, no-obligation quote for homes and commercial buildings across Kent and South East London.

When to Call Us

Signs You Need a Fibreglass Roof

  • A Balcony or Terrace

A roof you plan to stand on needs a hard-wearing surface, and GRP is one of the best flat roof options.

  • Failing Extension Felt

When old felt has cracked or blistered, fibreglass gives the extension a rigid, joint-free replacement.

  • A Leaking Dormer Roof

Small, exposed dormer roofs suit GRP, which bonds edges and upstands into the same layer as the main surface.

  • Awkward Roof Details

Corners, upstands and level changes are laminated in place, not lapped, so there are no weak seams.

Pricing

Fibreglass Roofing Costs

Every job is different, so we price from the inspection rather than guess over the phone. These are the things that move the figure.

FREE, No-Obligation Quotes. Your quote costs nothing and commits you to nothing, so you can make an informed decision about your property.

  1. Roof Area & Shape

Larger roofs and complex shapes take more laminate and more time to lay by hand.

  2. Deck Replacement

GRP needs a sound, stable deck, so any boards that have to be replaced are added to the work.

  3. Edge & Upstand Detailing

Every wall abutment, outlet and change of level is laminated individually.

  4. Topcoat Colour & Finish

Standard and non-standard colours, or an anti-slip finish for a balcony, can change the price.

How It Works

Our Fibreglass Roofing Process

  1. Surveying the Roof

We assess the roof’s shape, edges and details so the laminate and trims can be planned properly.

  2. Boarding & Fitting Trims

The deck is made sound with new boards where needed, and pre-formed trims are fixed around the edges.

  3. Laying the Laminate

Resin and glass matting are worked into the deck and up every upstand, then left to cure into one rigid layer.

  4. Applying the Topcoat

A coloured topcoat seals and finishes the surface, and the site is cleared once the roof is done.

FAQs

Fibreglass Roofing FAQs

What Does GRP Mean?

Glass reinforced plastic. On a roof, it means layers of glass fibre matting set in resin, which cure into a hard, waterproof shell that is finished with a coloured topcoat.

Can I Use a Fibreglass Roof as a Balcony?

Yes, GRP is one of the better flat roof systems for foot traffic, so it is often used on balconies and terraces. An anti-slip finish can be added, and furniture should sit on protective pads.

Why Do Fibreglass Roofs Need Dry Weather?

The resin has to cure on a dry deck to bond properly, and rain or damp during laying can spoil the finish. That is why start dates can move in wet spells, and we keep you informed if they do.

What Colours Can a Fibreglass Topcoat Come In?

The topcoat comes in a range of colours, with grey the most common. We show you the options when we quote so the roof sits well with the rest of the property.

Why Can GRP Cost More Than Other Flat Roofs?

Fibreglass is laid by hand in several stages on site, from boarding and laminating to the topcoat, so labour plays a larger part. The final cost depends mainly on the size and shape of the roof and the condition of the deck, and your quote sets out exactly what is included.
